It is quite ironic that many of our Basque ancestors who immigrated here came because of a shortage of food, because today some of the best food around is in the Basque Country.  So this week we feature a couple of website links regarding Basque cuisine.  The first is about a new unique Basque cookbook that features pintxo recipes accompanied by a C.D. of music by Fermin Muguruza.  To find out more read this story at
http://www.eitb.com/news/life/detail/524227/pintxatu-no-ordinary-basque-cookbook/ .   The second website provides a great list of online Basque recipes at http://euskalkazeta.com/ (Euskal+Kazeta+-+Basque+News)

A couple of items this week.  First, this weekend there are a series of Ladies Baleen and Paleta Goma matches at the San Francisco Basque Cultural Center, with players paired from different communities.  The goal is to offer a chance to mix-up the play, bring camaraderie and to animate the level of play at the NABO level.  To find out more click on

Astero readers have sent a link to a Spanish video clip making the rounds right now on YouTube featuring Basque Renaissance man Inaki Perurena when he is put on the spot in an interview with a leading question that he is not Basque but instead Navarrese.  He gives an impressive response.  To find out more click on http://nabasque.org/NABO/perurena.htm
